Desert View Watchtower¶

A 70-foot stone watchtower designed by architect Mary Colter in 1932, inspired by ancestral Puebloan towers. It's the first major viewpoint when entering from the east -- and it might be the best.

- Gift shop and bookstore on the ground floor
South Rim Afternoon
After Desert View, drive the 25-mile scenic road west along the rim. Key overlooks:
- Lipan Point -- wide river views
- Grandview Point -- one of the highest overlooks
- Mather Point -- the classic Grand Canyon vista
- Park at the visitor center and walk the Rim Trail between viewpoints
